DeLany, Flaitz, Maldonado among big winners as Hornell hosts Wayland-Cohocton

HORNELL — Hornell track and field returned to action Tuesday coming off a strong showing at its 57th annual Hornell Invitational, welcoming league foe Wayland-Cohocton to Maple City Park.

On the boys side of the scoresheet, the Wayland-Cohocton Golden Eagles defeated the host Hornell Red Raiders 85-56 in LCAA track and field action.

After an MVP performance at the Hornell Invitational on Friday, Brennan DeLany continued a strong spring campaign with four more event wins Tuesday in the high jump, triple jump, pole vault and 110m hurdles to lead the Red Raiders.

Powering Wayland-Cohocton was Titan Rocha, who won three events — the 400m, 800m, and 400m hurdles — to help the Eagles capture the road win. Michael Pillsbury also won multiple individual events, claiming first in the shot put and the discus.

For the girls, the host Lady Raiders battled Wayland-Cohocton to a rare 70-70 tie score.

Wayland-Cohocton’s Celise Wicker was a triple winner in the 400m, 800m and 1500m to pace the visiting Eagles.

For Hornell, Elaina Flaitz and Selena Maldonado both won a trio of individual events and ran on Hornell’s victorious 400m relay.

Flaitz won the 100m hurdles, the 400m hurdles and the high jump, while Maldonado took first in the long jump, the triple jump and the pole vault in the field.
