Del City's Brandon Garrison named Gatorade Oklahoma high school boys basketball Player of the Year
Brandon Garrison capped his high school basketball career with another state title and a well-known award.
Four days after winning a Class 5A championship with Del City, Garrison was named the Gatorade Oklahoma Boys Basketball Player of the Year, Gatorade announced Wednesday morning. Garrison, a 6-foot-9 senior center who signed with Oklahoma State, is the first recipient from Del City High School. He led the Eagles to a 21-6 record, ending the season on an 11-game win streak.
As the top-ranked class of 2023 recruit in the state, Garrison has established himself as an all-around game-changer, also picking up McDonald’s All-American honors this year. Heading into the state semifinals, Garrison’s averages included 16.1 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.7 blocks per game, according to Gatorade’s news release.

In the state finals, Garrison poured in 17 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks, guiding West second-ranked Del City to an overtime victory against top-ranked Carl Albert. It was Garrison’s second state title – he also won as a sophomore, and the Eagles made the tournament every year of his high school career.
Opposing coaches have recognized the unique importance of Garrison’s presence.
“He impacts the game so much that he’s the best player on the court if he is scoring zero points or 20 points,” said Piedmont coach Brandon Jackson in the news release. “He’s a great rebounder, great passer, gets double-teamed every game and he is fine with it. He passes the ball and wants his teammates to succeed.”
As a Gatorade Oklahoma Boys Basketball Player of the Year, Garrison follows Jai’Vion “JV” Seat of Edmond Memorial, Trey Alexander of Heritage Hall, Bryce Thompson of Tulsa Booker T. Washington and many other stars.
Edmond North's Laci Steele was named Gatorade Oklahoma high school girls basketball Player of the Year last week.
