Davante Adams: ‘dream’ was to play for Raiders before Derek Carr, ‘absolutely’ wants to be back
A fun little assumption all too many people were making when Derek Carr was benched and dismissed for the remainder of the season was that Davante Adams would want out.
Those who feared that would happen took Adams’s frustrations immediately following the news as confirming their fears. Even though Adams didn’t say anything specifically about wanting out if Carr were gone.
The closest Adams came to saying such a thing was noting that he wouldn’t be a Raider without Derek Carr. A statement I took to mean that Carr made it happen. While some others took that to mean Adams’ only reason for joining the Raiders was to play with Carr.
Wednesday Adams took to the podium where he was asked point blank if he wanted to be back with the Raiders. And he didn’t mince words this time.
“Yeah, absolutely,” said Adams. “Like I said I wouldn’t have ended up here originally probably if Derek [Carr] wasn’t here, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that I won’t be here in the event that he’s not here. That’s my boy, obviously I got his back through anything, I’ve made that more than clear at this point. And I support him, I support everything that he has moving forward as well, but my dream was to play for this team before he was a Raider. And at this point I want to try to make this thing work and continue doing what I’m doing here. Myself get better and see the team grow and get better as well.”
So, there you have it. Adams was a Raiders fan long before he ever even met Derek Carr. And though he considers him a close friend and credits him for helping to get him into a Raiders uniform, Derek was not the primary reason he wanted to don Silver & Black. And its his intention to stay with the Raiders.
