After Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon during the Jets' season opener against the Buffalo Bills on September 11th, Wilson took over as the quarterback. Despite Rodgers' early exit from the game, Wilson stepped up to the challenge and led the Jets to victory with a 22-16 win in overtime against the Bills.
