Comedian Fortune Feimster to bring Live, Laugh, Love Tour to El Paso
Comedian, writer and actress Fortune Feimster will share stories of her mom and settling into married life in her show, "Live, Laugh, Love!" tour, Saturday at the UTEP Magoffin Auditorium.
Feimster, who resides in Los Angeles, married her partner, Jacquelyn Smith, in October 2020. They had a small ceremony on the beach, forgoing a big wedding due to the pandemic.
"We're learning different parts about each other and how we handle certain situations and I'm talking more about my mom again and really delving into that relationship - just sharing different parts of my life that I haven't shared before," Feimster said in a telephone interview.
Feimster and her wife have been together for over seven years, having met at a Chicago Pride event.
"I was out there for work ... and we met each other and kept running into each other. We had a connection pretty quickly and it led to long-distance dating for a year, then we took the plunge. She moved across the country to Los Angeles and moved in with me," she said.
Feimster recently shared some of those stories on her second Netflix hour-long special, "Good Fortune." The show earned her a Critics' Choice Awards nomination for "Best Comedy Special."

Feimster said her comedy has always been about sharing what's going on in her life and making fun of herself, versus making fun of others. At first, her parents were unsure about her embarking on a comedy career, but they are now super supportive. Her mom loves the attention and often joins her on podcasts.
"I'm usually pretty good about knowing where the line is. I think I have a good idea of what (my wife) would be comfortable with and what should stay between us," she said. Feimster added that Smith is very involved in her career, traveling with her on tour and she also produced her last two specials with her.
"So, she's got ideas and will remind me of stories, like one I'm telling right now that she reminded me about when we were in Italy," she said. "It's cool to have her be involved in the decision-making process from the beginning."
As part of the LGBTQ community, Feimster said she's always tried to be true to herself and jokes that she couldn't hide who she is. But her comedy is generally about her roles as a wife, daughter and friend.
"And just sharing stories that all people can relate to," she said.
However, she got a good feeling and response from fans when she shared her coming out story earlier in her career.
"I got a response from people who said it helped them with their coming out journey. And I heard from parents who said it helped them understand it more, and to be more accepting. That part, a by-product of, you know, trying to make people laugh, is really special."
Later this year, the comedian will return to acting with the upcoming release of a Netflix action series alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger.
