Columbus Crew complete transfer with LAFC for allocation money
The Crew completed another transfer Thursday, but this one didn’t involve a player.
Columbus received $150,000 in allocation money from Los Angeles Football Club in exchange for an international roster slot, which was announced as the latest bit of Crew activity within the July 5 to Aug. 2 secondary transfer window.
Since it opened, the Crew agreed to transfer defender Milos Degenek to Red Star Belgrade in Serbia for a reported $500,000, agreed to terminate goalkeeper Eloy Room’s contract and acquired veteran midfielder Julian Gressel from the Vancouver Whitecaps for $550,000 in allocation money.
Columbus also signed Ukrainian center back Yevhen Cheberko, 25, on June 9 from NK Osijek in the Croatian First Division. The second of two MLS transfer windows closes Wednesday, two days after the Crew play Liga MX powerhouse Club América in a Leagues Cup match Monday at Lower.com Field.
Gressel could make his Crew debut during that match and Cherberko could make his second appearance since joining Columbus.
