Colts place starting CB Isaiah Rodgers Sr. on injured reserve
INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts are placing starting cornerback Isaiah Rodgers Sr. on injured reserve for the final two games of the season.
Undrafted rookie Darrell Baker Jr. has been promoted from the practice squad to take his place.
Rodgers Sr. suffered a knee injury in the team’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night, and according to a source, the Colts were still finalizing their diagnosis of the injury Wednesday.
The third-year cornerback overtook Brandon Facyson for the starting job four games into the season, and according to Sports Info Solutions, Rodgers Sr. has turned in a solid season despite being unable to come up with an interception, making 34 tackles, three pass breakups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Rodgers Sr. has given up 13 of 23 completions for 113 yards, a .565 completion percentage, 4.9 yards per attempt and has given up two touchdowns in 430 snaps while playing the lead role in a rotational mix with Facyson, the veteran on a one-year deal who hasn’t been as good as Rodgers Sr. in coverage.
Rodgers Sr. also averaged 25.1 yards on kickoff returns as the team’s primary kick return man, but he gave up that role — by his own suggestion — to undrafted rookie Dallis Flowers, who has been electric in the return game.

With Facyson on a one-year deal, the Colts head into the offseason with Rodgers Sr., Kenny Moore II and Stephon Gilmore under contract, and Rodgers has now firmly established himself as a starting-caliber cornerback in the NFL heading into the final year of his rookie contract.
