Nev. Teen Allegedly Killed Her Little Brother and Dad, Told Police She 'Couldn't Control the Urge to Kill'

Mashenka Reid is charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder

A Nevada teen is accused of fatally shooting her father and younger brother in their Reno home, police say, according to multiple reports.

Washoe County jail records indicate that Mashenka Reid, 17, is charged with two counts of open murder and one count of attempted murder.

Reid was arrested Friday after she allegedly called 911 and told a dispatcher, “I shot my dad. I shot my brother. I think my brother is dead,” according to a probable cause affidavit reviewed by News 4, 2 News Nevada and the Reno Gazette Journal. 

She also allegedly told the dispatchers, “I couldn’t control the urge to kill somebody,” according to the reported affidavit.

Reno police found the body of Reid’s brother, who was around 4 or 5 years old, on the living room couch, according to the Gazette Journal, citing the affidavit, and the body of her father was found in the garage. Neither of the victims’ names have been released.

Reid told police she “believed” her younger sister was alive, the reported affidavit alleges. The younger sister was reportedly found alive.

Reid also allegedly said she dropped the gun, a Walther PPS, inside the home.

It is not immediately clear if Reid has entered a plea. Court records indicate that she is being represented by a public defender.
