Police suspect foul play in the death of a 22-year-old woman who was found dead in the wood line near a vehicle engulfed in flames.

Cobb County police are investigating the death of Beauty Couch of Austell, Georgia, the department said in a news release on Aug. 24. Couch was a roller-skating Instagram influencer, with 147,000 followers on the social media app.

The Austell Fire Department received a call about a brush fire shortly after noon on Aug. 23, according to the release. When the responders arrived, they found a vehicle on fire. Austell police went to the home of Couch’s family, who told investigators that she most often drove the vehicle and hadn’t been seen since the previous morning.

Police returned to the area where the vehicle was found and located Couch’s body in the wood line, the release said.

Austell police requested the assistance of Cobb County police, who are investigating the case as a homicide, according to the release.

Friends, family and followers of Couch expressed dismay over her death.

“If y’all know my baby cousin and have any answers to what happened please contact us,” one person wrote on Facebook. “We want answers!!!!!”

Messages of “rest in peace” and “skate in peace” filled the comments under Couch’s posts on Instagram, where she is known as @beautykatera.

In an interview with Bold Journey published Aug. 11, Couch spoke out about overcoming anxiety and negativity to pursue what she loved.

“My generosity comes from my past,” she told Bold Journey. “Often in elementary I was bullied for my size. At home I was taught that everyone is their own person and are beautiful in their own way. Being kind was always the environment I grew up in.”

She said she got into skating in 2020 after doing it when she was young.

“I fell in love with the music and never stopped since then,” she said. “Skating gives me a peace I never thought I could experience.”

Austell is a city in the Atlanta metro area.
