Canadian athletes Blayre Turnbull and Ryan Sommer had more than one reason to be excited about the Beijing Olympics opening ceremonies on Friday.

The couple, who got engaged in April of last year, hadn't seen each other for three months ahead of the Winter Games. As two of Canada's top athletes, their reunion was pretty epic.

Turnbull, a forward with Canada's hockey team, posted a picture of her heartwarming moment with her fiancé and Canadian bobsledder Sommer.

“Name a cooler place to be reunited with your fiancé after spending the last 3 months apart… I’ll wait,” read Turnbull's post on Instagram. Sommer shared the same photo with a caption reading, “A couple of kids, chasing our dreams.”

Calling an Olympic athlete’s schedule busy is an understatement. Despite both Turnbull and Sommer representing team Canada, a combination of competitions, training camps and COVID-19 safety protocols precluded the couple from an earlier reunion, per the Daily Hive.

This is Turnbull’s second Olympic appearance, after earning silver with Canada four years ago in Pyeongchang.

She wasted no time showcasing the work she put in during the three months away from her partner. Turnbull had two goals and four points in Canada's opening game in Beijing, a 12-1 win over Switzerland on Wednesday. The 28-year-old, currently a member of the PWHPA, also helped propel Canada to an 11-1 victory over Finland on Friday, recording four shots on goal despite staying off the score sheet.

“Walking down the aisle and into opening ceremonies, same thing,” Turnbull's teammate Sarah Nurse commented on Instagram.

Sommer, 28, is competing in his first Olympic Games as part of Canada’s four-man bobsled team. His competition is set to kickoff on Feb. 19.
