Ohio man admits to impersonating nurse for 4 years, providing treatment to kids

CINCINNATI – An Ohio man pleaded guilty to stealing the identity of a nurse and illegally treating patients, including children.

Martez Rhandell Morris, 28, pleaded guilty in Franklin County Court of Commons Pleas on Tuesday to four felonies: identity fraud, tampering with public records, Medicaid fraud and practicing nursing without a license.

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said Morris discovered he had stolen the identity of a nurse and created fraudulent documents to get a job as a nurse. The ruse continued for four years.

“It’s a special kind of abuse to play pretend nurse to a kid who needs serious care,” Yost said. “The abuse of trust is even worse than the fraud – and I hope the judge takes that into account at sentencing.”

Investigators said Morris initially denied the allegations but confessed after 40 minutes of questioning, resulting in his arrest in 2019.

While impersonating a nurse, Morris providing care for several children and a disabled adult, prosecutors said.

"One of his victims was a 20-month-old child whom Morris gave breathing treatments, administered medication and cleaned the child’s feeding tube," Yost said.

Morris is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 17.
