Mindy Kaling Quietly Welcomed Baby No. 3, a Daughter, Earlier This Year: 'Best Birthday Present'

The actress is also mom to daughter Kit and son Spencer

Mindy Kaling is a mom again!

The Mindy Project alum, 45, quietly welcomed her third baby earlier this year, announcing the news on Instagram on Monday, June 24.

Posting a sweet picture of her baby daughter Anne with her daughter Katherine "Kit," 6, and son Spencer, 3, the actress took a moment to reflect on growing her family in her caption. She also shared a photo that featured her baby bump as well as a snap of her in a hospital bed alongside her older two kids.

"In late February I gave birth to my daughter, Anne. She’s the best birthday present I could’ve ever imagined," Kaling began her caption.

"When things are hard, whenever I veer towards cynicism, my three kids are such a great reminder of the pure joy in my life. I’m so lucky I live in a place where I could do this by myself, on my own timeline. Thanks for all the birthday wishes!"

Since the surprise announcement of her first pregnancy in 2017, Kaling, who has never revealed the identity of the father of her children, has been busy keeping up with her little ones.

However, she does have help raising her two kids, telling PEOPLE in 2021 that "it absolutely takes a village." That village includes her nanny, her father Avu, and none other than Reese Witherspoon, whom Kaling has lauded as "a great source of parenting advice."

Kaling typically chooses to keep her kids' faces off social media, telling PEOPLE, "I feel like I might as well wait until they get old enough so they can tell me if they want to be part of my social media or not."

But that doesn't mean that sticking to her plan is easy. "I'm like any parent where I'm proud of the things they do," she explained. "I think they're so cute, and of course, I want other people to see it."

In May, Kaling sat down with Jennifer Hudson as a guest on The Jennifer Hudson Show and chatted about whether her kids would ever follow in her footsteps in the industry.

“So far I could see my daughter doing it a little bit,” The Office star replied. “She did a little bit of musical theater and liked it, but again, wanted to be the star of the production and wasn’t and thus kind of lost interest.”

When it comes to her toddler son Spencer, “Not so much,” Kaling said. “He’s a little bit more shy.”
