A British man left his long-term girlfriend for a Ukrainian refugee he had just met.

According to the New York Post, Tony Garnett, 29, was in a relationship for 10 years with Lorna Garnett, but decided to leave for a younger woman who had been living in his house for only 10 days.

Tony and his partner Lorna, 28, had received the woman at their home in the city of Bradford, West Yorkshire in England.

"We are planning the rest of our lives together,” said the 29-year-old security guard, father of two, who mentioned that it was love at first sight after meeting 22-year-old Sofiia Karkadym.

"As soon as I saw him, I fancied him,” Karkadym told The Sun. “It’s been very quick but this is our love story. I know people will think badly of me but it happens. I could see how unhappy Tony was.”

According to Tony, his relationship with Lorna began deteriorating after the refugee arrived to live with them and Lorna got “very jealous.”

Tony said he and Karkadym had chemistry since they met. He explained that he speaks Slovakian and that helped him communicate with Karkadym.

After arriving to live with Tony, Lorna, and their two young children, Karkadym began wearing low-cut tops as well as makeup, making sure to always look good for Tony, Lorna told The Sun.

After a neighbor told Lorna they'd seen Tony and Karkadym in very flirtatious situations, Lorna decided it was enough.

“I started to feel like the third wheel as they sat on the sofa, laughing and joking while I was ignored. I suddenly felt unwelcome in my own home,” she told The Sun.

Eventually, Lorna told Tony that he should decide and he did. “I told Lorna, 'If she goes, I go,'" he said. "We packed up and moved into my parents' house.”

Lorna was disappointed after she helped the Ukrainian refugee get out of her war-torn country.

"I decided it was the right thing to do, to put a roof over someone’s head and help them when they were in desperate need. And that's how Sofiia has paid me for it," Lorna said.
