Kansas City Shooting Victim Remembered as 'A Very Loving, Caring, and Devoted Mother'
Lisa Lopez-Galvan was shot at the end of the Chiefs' Super Bowl parade in Missouri on Wednesday
Lisa Lopez-Galvan, the woman who was killed during Wednesday's mass shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade, is being remembered for her role as a dedicated mother to her two children.
On Thursday, Lopez-Galvan’s brother Beto Lopez paid tribute to his sister as he told CNN’s Anderson Cooper she was, “a very loving, caring, and devoted mother.”
“We have tragic situations like this one that occur unfortunately way too often and a lot of time individuals get lost as just statistics or numbers,” Lopez said. “She did a lot for this community and the Kansas City area, raising money for a lot of charitable events and organizations, and it’s something we’ll be very proud of forever.”
Lopez-Galvan was shot at the end of the Chiefs’ parade in Kansas City, Missouri. The 43-year-old's friends confirmed her death to The Kansas City Star this week. The publication reported that Lopez-Galvan, a local radio DJ, had died during surgery after suffering a gunshot wound to her abdomen.
According to CNN, Lopez-Galvan was celebrating the Chiefs’ 2024 Super Bowl win with family members, including her husband Mike, son Marc and daughter Adriana when she was fatally shot. Three other family members, including Lopez-Galvan’s son Marc, were also injured in the shooting, per the publication.
In a statement shared with CNN Thursday, Lopez-Galvan’s family said they were “heartbroken” at her death and described her as “an amazing mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to so many.”
“Lisa leaves behind her husband of 22 years, Mike, and two children, Marc, and Adriana,” the statement continued. “We ask to please keep our family in your prayers as we grieve the loss of Lisa’s death while also supporting our other loved ones who were impacted in this senseless act.”
Lopez-Galvan’s employer, KKFI 90.1 FM, also shared a statement on Facebook confirming Lopez-Galvan’s death. “It is with sincere sadness and an extremely heavy and broken heart that we let our community know that KKFI DJ Lisa Lopez, host of Taste of Tejano lost her life today in the shooting at the KC Chiefs' rally,” the statement read.
“Our hearts and prayers are with her family. We encourage anyone who feels they saw something to reach out to law enforcement at 816 234 5111. This senseless act has taken a beautiful person from her family and this KC Community,” it concluded.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Lopez-Galvan’s family following her death, with donations reaching over $174,000 as of Friday morning. On Friday, two $50,000 donations were made to the page under the name Taylor Swift. Swift, 34, is dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and attended the Super Bowl on Sunday but was not present at the parade.
Speaking at a press conference Thursday, Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said the shooting, which also injured 22 people, is believed to have stemmed from a dispute and was not terrorism-related.

“There was no nexus to terrorism or homegrown violent extremism,” Graves said. “This appeared to be a dispute between several people that ended in gunfire.” The age of the victims ranges from 8 to 47, and at least half of those injured were under 16, Graves said.
At a press conference the previous day, Graves had said three people were detained and are "under investigation for today's incident."
Following the shooting, many Chiefs players involved in the parade spoke out about the incident on social media and sent prayers to the victims involved.
“Praying for Kansas City🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 ,” wrote Patrick Mahomes in a post shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), while Travis Kelce also shared his heartbreak.
“I am heartbroken over the tragedy that took place today,” wrote tight end Kelce, 34, on X. “My heart is with all who came out to celebrate with us and have been affected. KC, you mean the world to me.”
