Clemson football lands commitment from Sammy Brown, 5-star Georgia linebacker
Clemson football has landed a commitment from Sammy Brown, one of the nation’s top high school players.
A five-star recruit, Brown is a 6-foot-2, 230-pound linebacker from Jefferson, Georgia. He’s rated as the top player in Georgia, the top linebacker nationally and the nation’s No. 5 player overall, according to the 247Sports composite.
Brown, who visited Clemson over the weekend, picked the Tigers over offers from four other finalists – Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Tennessee.
Brown announced his decision via social media Monday evening.

“For the last two and a half years, I have been blessed with the privilege of building relationships with the finest men in college football,” Brown said. “I’ve taken dozens of visits to great campuses across the country, spent many nights in conversation, and watched some incredible football games along the way.
“To all of you that have shared your lives with me, I am forever grateful and I will always cherish the opportunities you afforded me. Specifically to the head coaches and staffs, I appreciate everything y’all have done for me through this whole process. To choose one school from among the final 5 was a nearly impossible task as they are all top notch programs headed by incredible men.
“My family and I have spent many months in prayer, seeking God’s will for my life. With that being said, I know God’s plan for my life takes me to Clemson, South Carolina!! 100% COMMITTED GO TIGERS”
In addition to leading Jefferson High’s defense with 113 tackles last season, Brown also distinguished himself as a running back, rushing for 1,459 yards and 21 touchdowns.
He also is a multiple-time state wrestling champion, with a career record of 88-5, including a 27-2 record last season in the 285-pound weight class. Brown is a track standout who has clocked a 10.7-second 100-meter dash, a 21.82 200-meter dash and long jumped 23 feet, 3 inches.
On Wednesday he was named MaxPreps' Male National Athlete of the Year.
Brown is Clemson’s first 5-star recruit in the 2024 class and the Tigers’ ninth commitment overall. Clemson has commitments from six defensive players, four of whom are from the state of Georgia.
