Classic City Crime podcaster Cameron Jay fighting cancer
A gofundme account has been set up for Classic City Crime Podcast creator Cameron Jay Harrelson after doctors diagnosed the Athens resident with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Harrelson has profiled several unsolved crimes in Athens including the 2001 slaying of University of Georgia Law School student Tara Baker.
More recently, he used the podcast and his relationship with the Baker family to advocate for the Coleman-Baker Act that pushed for state investigations on unsolved crimes. The act was signed into law recently by Gov. Brian Kemp.
Harrelson announced on April 14 on Facebook that he was diagnosed with the cancer after nearly eight months of health issues.
On his post he expressed that he was “very optimistic about my upcoming treatment, knowing that the prognosis is positive and the end result of treatment will yield success.”
The gofundme account was established by Danielle Bonanno, who wanted to provide a place for community supporters to make donations towards Harrelson’s expenses.
Insurance only covers a portion of the expenses, according to Bonanno.

“Cameron is my best friend and I just want to do everything to ensure that my friend has support during this time,” Bonanno said. “Cameron makes Athens a more vibrant place to live. He’s worked hard to make a lot of change in our community."
Bonanno also made an appeal on the fundraising site.
"Please consider making a contribution, no matter how small, to help support Cameron during his cancer battle. Your generosity will make a significant impact in his life, and we are grateful for any support you can offer," Bonanno wrote on the page.
Harrelson had his first chemo treatment on Wednesday.
“I think he feels better knowing what it is that he will have to show up for in the next few months,” Bonanno said. “He’s really tired.”
