Cincinnati Bengals coach Zac Taylor updates Joe Burrow's status ahead of Titans matchup

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor addressed the media Wednesday afternoon for the first time since Cincinnati's 19-16 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night.

Taylor said the Bengals will still "take it day-to-day" with quarterback Joe Burrow, who reported no setbacks to his injured calf after a gutsy performance in Monday's win.

Taylor added that Burrow will participate in Wednesday's walkthrough and that they'll make a call later in the week if they'll keep three quarterbacks active against Tennessee.

"Certainly, that pertained to last week and just where Joe (Burrow) was at," Taylor said. "Not necessary to make that decision at this point."

Injury report

The Bengals are relatively healthy before going on the road in a short week. Tight end Irv Smith Jr., who missed Monday's win with a hamstring injury, and wide receiver Charlie Jones (hand) will be limited.

The Bengals (1-2) are set to travel to Nashville this weekend to face the Titans (1-2), who are coming off a 27-3 loss at the Cleveland Browns.

The Bengals have had the Titans' number (3-0) in the Zac Taylor era with the 2021 playoff win sandwiched between regular-season victories in 2020 and 2022.

After facing stout defensive fronts within the division through the first two weeks and Monday's win over the Aaron Donald-led Rams, the Bengals have another tough test against a Tennessee defense that ranks fourth against the run and first in yards-per-carry (2.6).

"It feels like playing an AFC North team when you play these guys," Taylor said of the Titans. "I remember first feeling that in the playoffs a couple of years ago against them. Last year they had some injury challenges across the board on defense. This year they're a lot healthier and it shows up on tape."
