Chipotle spinoff restaurant: Farmesa to serve customizable bowls with salmon, veggies and more
Chipotle Mexican Grill announced Wednesday it will open a new spinoff restaurant, Farmesa, a "fresh eatery concept" serving customizable bowls in California.
Farmesa's bowls will feature protein, green or grain, two sides, one of five sauces, and a topping option, with prices ranging from $11.95 to $16.95.
The brand will have a soft opening with limited hours and an abbreviated menu before officially opening its doors in March in Santa Monica, California, in partnership with ghost-kitchen company Kitchen United Mix. Farmesa will only take orders for takeout or delivery.
Farmesa is Chipotle's latest attempt at a spinoff success in the last decade. The fast-casual food chain previously launched ShopHouse Southeast Asian Kitchen and later tried its hand at burgers with Tasty Made. Both restaurants closed.

"One of our strategic objectives is to create or invest in emerging culinary spaces and restaurant concepts that fit within Chipotle's food with integrity mission and make fresh food daily," CEO Brian Niccol said in a press release.
Farmesa's full menu, curated by award-winning chef Nate Appleman, will include dishes such as Everything Spice-Crusted Ora King Salmon, whipped potatoes, golden beets, and sweet potato chips.
Customers will be able to order onsite via kiosks at the Kitchen United Mix location on Santa Monica's Third Street Promenade. They can also order through third-party apps like DoorDash and Uber Eats.
The company said Farmesa will allow it to "test and learn on future restaurant concepts."
Chipotle has nearly 3,200 restaurants as of December in the United States and abroad.
