Chiefs select Stephen F. Austin DE BJ Thompson at pick No. 166

With the 166th pick in the 2023 NFL draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select Stephen F. Austin DE BJ Thompson.

Thompson is a player that the Chiefs brought in a top-30 visit very early during the process. He’s an athletic and bendy edge rusher, who isn’t necessarily built in the mold that Steve Spagnuolo typically prefers his prospects.

Listed at 6-6 and 240 pounds, Thompson is s strong athlete. He was highly productive at the FCS level with Stephen F. Austin, appearing in 33 games with 27.5 tackles for loss and 20.5 sacks during that span.
