TV news anchor Erik Elken out at Channel 7-KVIA; Paul Cicala returns to El Paso
Channel 7-KVIA news anchor Stephanie Valle is getting a new co-anchor.
Paul Cicala, previously the ABC 7 sports director, will join Valle starting Monday, Sept. 25 as its new primetime anchor.
Valle and Cicala will co-anchor the station's newscasts at 5, 6 and 10 p.m. Monday through Friday.
"When I was at ABC-7, I feel like my biggest memories were the stories I did with news," Cicala said."I'm really looking forward to working on all the stories that I never got the opportunity to work on whenI was in El Paso — and not only in El Paso, but of course, Las Cruces and Ciudad Juárez, as well," he added.
Cicala will be replacing Erik Elken, who "has stepped back to spend more quality time with his family," the news station said in an email Tuesday morning.
Channel 14-KFOX News announced Liz Dueweke, who's been in broadcast news in Seattle for 10 years, is the new co-anchor with Robert Holguin. Her first day was Aug. 7.
