Catcher Relocates Highly Venomous Snake That Fell Into Skate Bowl
A highly venomous eastern brown snake was rescued from a skate bowl in Dicky Beach, Queensland, after it had fallen in to “join the kids,” snake catcher Stuart McKenzie joked.
McKenzie, from Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7, posted video to Facebook on October 18 showing him carefully removing the snake, which had dropped into the skate bowl, before relocating it back into the wild.
“Look, a trained one!” McKenzie joked in the video, as the snake slithered into the catcher’s bag, seeking shelter. Credit: Stuart McKenzie via Storyful

- Just arrived down here at Dicky Beach. There's actually a decent solid ground side in the skate park. So it's actually fallen in to the bowl skate park, and can't get out because it's so slippery. So luckily, there's a couple adults down here that are keeping all the kids here. And we're going to catch him and get him in the bush.
- [INAUDIBLE]
- Hey, guys.
- Hi, how are you?
- Good, yourself?
- Yeah.
- OK. Oh. Ah.
- Bring your skateboard? Drop in?
- Mate, the last time I was at a skate park, I smashed my teeth on a [INAUDIBLE]
- So some bad memories at the skate park?
- What type of snake it it?
- It's an Eastern Brown snake.
- Oh.
- We're probably going to need a little bit of venting, too, because he feels like he's cornered in here. But what I might even do-- sometimes in this situation, you don't have to pick them up. They often just look for somewhere to hide. So he's been in the heat for a little bit. It's probably nice and warm.
- Yeah, what if it jumps out of the bag?
- So all he wants is shelter. So I didn't even have to touch him. All I did is put that down. And he's probably been looking for shelter for the last half hour since he's been stuck in here. [INAUDIBLE] I like to train one.
- Thank you.
[LAUGHS]
- You job's easy.
- I wish it was that easy every time. Beautiful. Thanks guys. Thanks for calling it in. You probably saved his life because it gets pretty hot in here in the middle of the day, so he'd cook pretty easy. Thanks a lot. Thanks a lot. Now I've going to get out of here.
[LAUGHS]
This brown snake's pretty keen to get back into the bush. Stuck in a skate bowl. There you go, buddy. There you go.
- Where is he?
- Just want to say a massive thanks to everybody down at the skate park who kept it on the snake, kept all the kids from going, obviously, inside the skate bowl. So the snake was protected, and everybody was safe.
And we had another incident this morning, another big brown snake in a [INAUDIBLE] block at Alex Headlands. And people there did the exact same thing. Kept it on the snake. Everybody was safe. Nobody did anything silly. We were able to get down there and catch that one as well. So good work, everybody.
