Here are the candidates in Arizona's 7th Congressional District

Democrat Raúl Grijalva and Republican Luis Pozzolo are running in the Nov. 8 general election in Arizona's 7th Congressional District.

The 7th Congressional District replaces the former 3rd Congressional District. It outlines the southwestern part of Arizona at the state's California and Mexico borders, covering parts of Maricopa, Pima, Pinal, Santa Cruz, Tucson and Yuma counties.

Here are the candidates running for Arizona's 7th Congressional District.

Democrat Raúl Grijalva

Veteran incumbent Rep. Raúl Grijalva, D-Ariz., took office in 2003 and is running for reelection.

Grijalva's campaign website lists his top issues as campaign finance reform along with criminal justice reform.

Other top issues include education, of which Grijalva says on the website, "I’m running for re-election because I know a lack of education is a lot more expensive than a good education, and I want to make sure Congress turns a corner in how it funds America’s schools." He also aims to protect the environment with strong federal protection of land and improve gun safety, which would include instituting universal background checks; reinstating bans on assault weapons; and prohibiting high-capacity magazines.

Grijalva is chair of the House Natural Resources Committee and serves on the Education and the Workforce Committee. He is chair emeritus of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and is a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

Republican Luis Pozzolo

GOP challenger Luis Pozzolo is hoping to defeat Grijalva.

As a first-time political candidate, Pozzolo's campaign website says that after advocating for legal immigration, he "recently decided after years of political involvement, to step into the political world of Arizona politics."

Pozzolo's campaign website lists his campaign issues as law enforcement, small businesses and immigration. The campaign website does list any specific goals on the issues.

Pozzolo with his wife immigrated to the United States in 2003 from Uruguay. He previously worked as the CEO and director of operations for a meat distributing company in Texas. After he moved to Arizona in 2017, Pozzolo opened a business called The Box Meat Shop.
