Camden star DJ Wagner nears 2,000 points, set to join dad, grandfather in prestigious club
The Wagner family is on the cusp of more history.
Camden High School senior DJ Wagner is set to join his father (Dajuan) and grandfather (Milt) in the 2,000-point club this week.
Wagner, the two-time Gatorade New Jersey and Courier-Post Player of the Year, enters Thursday’s showdown with Bishop Eustace at 1,965 points after posting a career-high 40 in a 114-46 victory over Winslow on Monday. The Panthers face Paul VI in the Camden County quarterfinals on Saturday morning at Sterling.
Wagner would be the third area basketball player in the last two weeks to reach 2,000 points, joining Woodbury's Alexis Davis and Paul VI's Hannah Hidalgo.
Dajuan Wagner is the state’s all-time leading scorer at 3,462 points while Milt Wagner tallied 2,003 in his career.
DJ, who followed in their footsteps as a McDonald's All-American, would be the 42nd player in South Jersey history to hit the milestone. He would be the seventh Camden player to achieve the feat. No school has produced more members.
