Bull riding competition will return to Tri-Cities Toyota Center for two-night showdown
It’s time to hold on to your hat — your cowboy hat, that is. The Toyota Center will become a full-fledged rodeo in early September for the Professional Bull Riders’ Tri-Cities Classic in the Challenger Series. For the third year in a row, Tri-Citians will be able to watch some of the world’s best bull riders as they compete atop bucking bulls.
The PBR Challenger Series consists of over 60 events per year, ending with the championship in Las Vegas in October.
The action starts at 8 p.m. September 8. The 35 competitors will ride one bull each in Round One, then again in Round Two, which starts at 7 p.m. the next day. Riders will be scored for each round, and the best ten totals advance to the championship round.
The highest possible score for one round is 100 points. Four judges score both the rider and the bull after each ride. Riders are scored on style, control and body position. The bull is scored for difficulty to ride, based on speed, power and actions. All these scores are added and the total is divided by two to determine the final score.
The best score in the championship round will receive the event title.
Tickets for the event went live this week, starting at $15. Two-day passes are also available.
