Bloomfield Mayor Michael Venezia enters race for State Assembly District 34 seat
Bloomfield Mayor Michael Venezia announced on social media this week that he will be running for the New Jersey State Assembly to represent the recently redrawn 34th Legislative District.
In a Facebook post, Venezia wrote: "I am proud to announce that I will be seeking the office of State Assembly in the 34th Legislative District (Bloomfield, Glen Ridge, Nutley, Belleville, East Orange and Orange)."
Venezia, a Democrat, has been the mayor of Bloomfield since 2014, calling it "one of my life’s greatest honors"
"Seizing the chance to serve as your representative in Trenton feels like a natural progression not only in my career in public service," he wrote, "but also my dedication to the residents of the town which has nurtured me my whole life."
He notes in his post that Bloomfield has not had a representative in the State Assembly since Marion Crecco in 2001.
