It's not rare that celebrities delete social media, deactivate comments, or take a break from Instagram for a bit. Being in the spotlight is hard, and having a direct line of communication through comments can be nice when fans are expressing their support or admiration, but it can also be extremely toxic when the discussion turns hateful. That's why, Billie Eilish announced yesterday that she is completely done looking at Instagram comments.

She made the decision just a few days ago, but she said it was necessary to do. "It was ruining my life," she told Louise Minchin on BBC Breakfast.

Even though Billie has had an incredible few weeks winning Grammys, performing at the Oscars, and releasing a new song, she said it doesn't stop the haters from saying mean things, in fact, it makes it worse.

"It's weird like the cooler the things you get to do are, the more people hate you," she said.

She admitted that she understands that a lot of the mean comments are "trolls" who will "say anything to make somebody laugh," but in recent weeks, the those trolls have gotten a lot worse.

"It's like worse, it's like way worse than it's ever been right now," she admitted.

Unfortunately, it has gotten to the point where Billie decided to just stop reading comments all together, but that doesn't mean she's going to stop interacting with her fans.

"The problem is, I've always wanted to stay in touch with the fans and like keep talking to them and like people have ruined that for me...and they've ruined it for them and that sucks," she said. "I still try to like fan's posts or whatever and especially if I see fans anywhere I just want to talk to them and be around them because they're people, like, they're me...they're like other mes. And so they're like friends of mine but yeah the internet is ruining my life so I turned it off."
