Beechwood's Boyd, Covington Catholic's Fitz headline all-state baseball teams
The Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches Association released its 2023 all-state teams with six players from Northern Kentucky named to the first, second or third team.
Beechwood senior Cameron Boyd and Covington Catholic senior Jonathan Fitz were named to the first team. Boyd was the NKBCA Division II Player of the Year after leading the Tigers to their fourth straight Ninth Region championship. He also led the state with 12 home runs and 64 hits. Fitz, who is committed to the University of San Diego, led the Colonels with a .511 batting average, 19 doubles and 30 walks. He also drove in 34 runs and hit five home runs.

Campbell County senior and University of Kentucky commit Ayden Hamilton was the lone Northern Kentucky player selected to the second team. Hamilton led the Camels on offense with a .416 batting average, 35 RBIs, 27 walks, 23 stolen bases and 10 doubles.
Three players were named to the all-state third team. Dixie Heights catcher Ethan Bosley led the Colonels with a .467 average 16 stolen bases and 14 doubles. He also went 3-for-4 in a near upset of Beechwood in the Ninth Region tournament.
Bishop Brossart's Evan Moore was one of the best pitchers in Northern Kentucky this season. He finished the season with a 6-4 record and a 1.77 earned run average, but his best performance was when he came within one out of a perfect game against Scott on April 24.
Jack Hendrix got it done on all three levels for Highlands. At the plate, he had a .486 average with 28 RBIs. On the mound, he had a 3-1 record with a 1.12 ERA, including a complete-game shutout of Conner in the regional tournament. Hendrix was also a reliable glove at shortstop.
Christian County's Elijah Underhill won Kentucky Mr. Baseball, an award that many thought would go to Boyd. Northern Kentucky players have won the award twice. Highlands' Drew Rom, who is currently a pitcher in the Baltimore Orioles organization, won in 2018. Covington Catholic graduate and current Cincinnati Reds catcher Luke Maile was the other recipient in 2009.
