Baseball on stilts? In kilts? Savannah Bananas baseball team head to NJ to tackle Thunder
It's not the quite the Big Apple, but the Savannah Bananas are heading our way.
The Trenton Thunder are getting ready go ape as they welcome baseball's only dancing, stilt-walking, kilt-wearing (sometimes) team on Aug. 9.
Savannah Bananas Schedule
The Bananas, founded in 2016 as part of the Coastal Plain League, now play exhibition games of their very own Banana Ball. They are travelling the nation on their 2023 Banana Ball World Tour.
While the Bananas usually tackle their rivals, the Party Animals (think the Harlem Globetrotters and Washington Generals), they play a number of "challenger" games, including against the Thunder on Aug. 9.
Banana Ball comes with its own set of rules, designed to entertain, confound and keep games moving (kinda).
Savannah Banana rules
Among its rules are no bunting, no walks (instead, on a ball four, the ball is tossed to every defensive player minus the pitcher and catcher as the batter races toward first base, to see who arrives first), and foul balls caught by fans are outs. There's a two-hour time limit for games.
Sound zany? The Bananas certainly hope so.
And don't miss their choreographed dances, breakdancing coach, legendary walkups and scoring celebrations - and dancing umpire.
