Bartlesville citizens show love, contempt for city councilors at Monday meeting

Before the Bartlesville City Council attended to city matters at its Monday night meeting, a dozen citizens expressed their support and gratitude to the council.

One by one, some wearing 'Bartlesville Strong,' or 'Back the Council' stickers, city residents took turns praising the council's work and speaking to the character of each council member.

"Each of you on the dais here today, council and staff alike and others in the room, is approachable, you listen, you're willing to dialogue and have in mind the interest of we the people," resident Quinn Schipper said. "So I stand here tonight to commend you and thank you for your tireless commitment to the people of Bartlesville."

Debbie Mueggenborg said as long as she's known Mayor Jim Curd, he's been an advocate for Bartlesville.

"He's worked tirelessly on so many projects to make Bartlesville better that I lose count," she said. "He's been a driving force in making our parks and recreation facilities places that we can be proud of."

After the thank you's were said, two members of the Washington County Republican Party County Committee presented their recently passed resolution to condemn the council for its stance on drag shows, which the EE reported on last month.

"There's nobody that's more for soccer in Bartlesville than Joe Bares," said fellow club member Jeff Bastings at the time. "He just had this passion for the game."
