Assumption field hockey draws first-round bye in NCAA Division 2 Tournament
WORCESTER — The Assumption University field hockey team, which won the Northeast-10 Tournament over the weekend and is riding a 20-game winning streak, received the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Division 2 Tournament and drew a first-round bye to the semifinals.
The Greyhounds (20-1) will play the winner of Saturday's first-round game between Adelphi (14-6) at West Chester (15-4), on Nov. 19 in the Final Four at Millersville University in Pennsylvania. Assumption's lone loss was to West Chester in the season opener, 2-1 in overtime.
The national final is slated for 1 p.m. Nov. 21 at Millersville.
Assumption edged Adelphi, 2-1, on Sunday to take the NE-10 title. The third Northeast-10 team in the six-team field is Bentley (14-5), which plays a first-round game Saturday at East Stroudsburg (15-4), with the winner facing top-seeded Shippensburg (18-0) in the other semifinal.
