Another round of flooding possible in RI today

Rhode Island could see its second round of flooding this week, as heavy rain and thunderstorms are again possible today, and the National Weather Service has issued a flood watch.

"Scattered to widespread downpours and thunderstorms today bring a heightened flash flood risk back to the region," the weather service says in its forecast discussion.

With 1 to 3 inches of rain possible, the watch continues into tonight.

The weather service advises people to keep an eye on the forecast and be prepared to take action if a flood warning is issued. A flood warning is issued when flooding is imminent; a watch is issued when conditions are favorable for flooding.

On Monday, the weather service also issued a flood watch and then a flood warning before heavy rain caused flooding in Rhode Island.

Expect a high temperature of 82 degrees under cloudy skies today in Providence.

The unsettled weather won't leave "anytime soon," the weather service says.

"Periodic showers and thunderstorms then continue through the weekend and into early next week with seasonable temperatures," the weather service says.
