In a chapter titled “Rocky Relationships,” Isaacson writes that Musk, 52, first took a liking to Heard after watching her 2013 movie Machete Kills. According to People, the biographer says Heard and Musk met the following year when he invited her to SpaceX where he took her for a ride in a Tesla.

“I guess I could be called a geek for someone who can also be called a hot chick,” Heard said in the book. Their romantic relationship reportedly didn’t begin until years later.

Isaacson also details a fight between the couple in December 2017, near the end of their relationship, during a trip to South Africa with family members, including Musk’s brother Kimbal who is also quoted in the book. Heard admits the argument occurred but also showed Isaacson some more loving photos and videos with Musk from the same trip.

In the book, Musk says of their relationship, “It was brutal.” Meanwhile, Heard says she still loves her ex “very much” and adds: “Elon loves fire, and sometimes it burns him.”

In the book, Isaacson reveals other tidbits about the romance including a tale about Musk flying to Australia in April 2017 while Heard was filming Aquaman. The book also claims that Heard once commissioned a costume of Mercy from the video game Overwatch so she could “roleplay” because Musk thought she resembled the character.

Elsewhere in the book, Kimbal questions his brother’s taste in partner’s and tells Isaacson it’s “very sad” that the Tesla founder “falls in love with these people who are really mean to him.” He said: “They’re beautiful, no question, but they have a very dark side and Elon knows that they’re toxic.”

As for Musk’s thoughts on his relationships, he laughed and told Isaacson, “I’m just a fool for love. I am often a fool, but especially for love.”
