Amarillo Fire Dept. reports structure fire, explosion overnight leaves 1 injured

Amarillo fire crews put out a fire after a reported explosion at a residence that left one resident injured Monday night.

According to reports, at around 10:30 p.m. Monday, the Amarillo Fire Department (AFD) was dispatched to a reported explosion at a residence in the 3100 block of South Monroe. As units arrived, they found a detached residential garage collapsed with a small amount of fire and smoke. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames.

The resident, who was not identified, was outside and taken to a local hospital after speaking to the crew. The health status of the resident is currently unknown.

The fire was ruled undetermined due to several possible causes. The Fire Marshal's Office reported that the occupant was working in the garage on a vehicle when the explosion occurred.
