Alliance Schools honors Class of 2023 Top 10%

The Top 10% of the Class of 2023 at Alliance High School was honored during a recent event. Alliance High School recognized the Top 10% of the Class of 2023 during an annual celebration held recently at University of Mount Union.

Twenty-two students were recognized for their academic achievements, along with their honored teacher or staff member – a person who has made a significant impact during their time in school.

Alliance High School will celebrate commencement for the Class of 2022 on Sunday.

Mount Union President Greg King welcomed families to campus.

Guest speaker David Zadigian, a 2007 graduate of AHS, spoke to the students about service to others.

Zadigian earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from University of Notre Dame in 2011.

Zadigian works at Dow Chemical as an improvement manager. He serves as a mentor for the Tulane chapter of Engineers Without Borders; a church youth group leader; and volunteer with Habitat for Humanity.

“The most valuable thing you can do in your life is to serve and help others,” Zadigian said. “That can show itself in many ways. As you choose your career, pick something that will help others and the community.”

The top ten percent event is organized each year by the Alliance Academic Recognition Committee and the John and Roene A. Klusch Foundation.

AHS Principal Kristy Woodford introduced each scholar and asked them to read a statement about their honored educator. The Top 10% of the Class of 2023 includes:

Julia Aldea, who will attend the University of Mount Union as an Investment Alliance Scholar to study nursing. Her honored educator is Samantha Podlogar, a science teacher at AHS.

Mason Armstead, who will attend Kent State University to pursue architecture. His honored educator is Chris Shively, a history teacher at AHS.

Oliva Bertolini, who will attend Ohio State University to study nursing. Podlogar is her honored educator.

Kaitlyn Bondoni, who will attend Mount Union as an Investment Alliance Scholar to study mechanical engineering. Her honored educator is Amy Latsch, a math teacher at AHS.

Haely Ellsworth, who will attend Mount Union as an Investment Alliance Scholar to study criminal justice. Her honored educator is Steve Cabassa, an art teacher at AHS and girls tennis coach.

Isabella Guappone, who will attend Ohio State to study actuarial science. Her honored educator is Allison Morrison, a school counselor at AHS.

Megan Hippely, who will attend Hiram College to study elementary education and play softball. Her honored educator is Troy Grisez, a teacher and softball coach at AHS.

Rylee Horning, who will attend Cedarville University to study early childhood education. Morrison is her honored educator.

Tamra Jackson, who will attend the University of Akron to study psychology. Her honored educator is Chris Schillig, an English teacher at AHS.

Zachary Kinser, who will attend Walsh University to study visual communication design and participate in the Walsh band. His honored educator is Robb Quicci, the interactive media teacher at AHS.

MacKenzie Kuntzman, who will attend Mount Union as Investment Alliance Scholar to study psychology. Morrison is her honored educator.

Payten Mathes, who will attend college to pursue a degree in nursing. Schillig is her honored educator.

Cameryn Mullaly, who will attend Mercyhurst University to study forensic science and play softball. Her honored educator is Susan Bucheit.

Tabbie Poindexter, who will attend Cedarville University to study political science. Her honored educator is Amber Patti, a school counselor at AHS.

Emma Reese, who will attend Mount Union as an Investment Alliance Scholar to study exercise science and play softball. Her honored educator is Stephanie McKnight, the sports medicine teacher at AHS.

Ramsey Reith, who will attend Mount Union as an Investment Alliance Scholar to study sports business and integrated media. Quicci is his honored educator.

Bridgette Runion, who will attend Kent State to study early childhood education. Her honored educator is Karlin Morgan, a kindergarten teacher at Alliance Early Learning School.

Jordan Schwartz, who will attend Harvard University to study political science. His honored educator is Bob Duncan, his speech and debate coach and a teacher at Alliance Elementary School.

Abiegail Thomas, who will attend Mount Union as an investment Alliance Scholar to study biochemistry. Her honored educator is Kim Woodruff, the premedical professions teacher at AHS.

Kelly Wang, who will attend Mount Union as an Investment Alliance Scholar to study nursing. Cabassa is her honored educator.

Gracie Weaver, who will attend Mount Union as an Investment Alliance Scholar to study Spanish. Her honored educator is Billy Sheak, a band and music teacher at Alliance City Schools.

Brianna Yoder was unable to attend the event.
