Alix Earle Revealed How Sharing Her Cystic Acne Photos Made Her A TikTok Star

You may or may not know Alix Earle.

She's, like, a really big internet star with over 5 million followers on TikTok and 3 million on Instagram.

Alix appeared on The Howard Stern Show, where she talked about how pivoting her content to show her journey with acne actually led to her blowing up on TikTok.

"I started on TikTok my freshman year of college. I'm a senior now," she said. "When I started out, I had no idea. I was trying to be picture-perfect. I thought that was the way to go."

"It honestly was the summer, when I was at my lowest point. I was dealing with a bunch of acne. I started posting about my acne."

"I posted about it, and the followers started to come in. They were like, 'Oh, I guess she's normal and deals with stuff, too.'"

Alix said it actually first began when she had a brand video that was due. "My manager was like, 'OK, Alix, time to send in the video.' And I was like, 'I cannot do it. My acne is so bad. I can't post it.' Then, I was like, 'Wait, what kind of message am I sending out here?'" She said she shared her journey to help her followers who may be going through something similar.

"It was so scary. The first video I posted with my skin raw and no makeup. I watched it and refreshed it for 30 minutes. I was like, 'Oh my gosh, people are gonna say mean things.' It was just overwhelmingly nice, positive, supportive community."
