Alachua County Public Schools had 53 open slots for instructional personnel as of Monday afternoon as schools prepare to open on Wednesday.
More than half of schools had at least one opening, although district spokeswoman Jackie Johnson said several job offers may go out before classes open for the school year.
"Until vacancies can be filled, we will have subs in some positions, who will be provided additional support by the district and their schools," Johnson said in an email.
The openings are scattered across the county. They include 43 jobs for teachers, six in student services and four for instructional support.
