Alabama basketball starter Noah Clowney sustains injury vs. UNC

Alabama basketball freshman forward Noah Clowney sustained an injury and had to leave the game against No. 1 North Carolina.

He has a lower body contusion and is questionable to return, a UA spokesperson said.

Clowney hit the floor hard under the basket after he went for a shot with about 16:37 left in the first half. He appeared in pain as he held his right backside. Clowney had to be helped to the locker room by two people. He returned to the bench in the first half.

This season, Clowney has averaged 7.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game this season for No. 18 Alabama.

The Crimson Tide entered Sunday's third-place game in the Phil Knight Invitational with one win and one loss while competing in Portland, Oregon. First, Alabama beat Michigan State on Thursday 81-70. Then the Crimson Tide lost to UConn 82-67 on Friday.

UNC landed in the third-place game with a loss to Iowa State on Friday. Both the Crimson Tide and UNC entered the game 5-1 on the season.
