Akron Children's Museum is hosting its fifth annual Hands-on Holidays event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5.

Children can fill up their "passport" as they visit and interact at multiple holiday craft stations, including visiting a mini hotcake design station presented by the Ellet CLC culinary department, building Home Depot kits, participating in the “paint your own snowman” workshop presented by The Family Room, enjoying a live steel band performance by Found Sound and a performance by the Hyre CLC Harmonix Show Choir directed by Kim Shama-Hana, engaging in interactive play sessions, taking photos with characters and visiting with Santa.

Adults can sign up for a holiday canvas painting experience, participate in a community service project and pick up items in the Monster Shop for the holidays. Families will also have a chance to receive items from the Akron-Summit County Public Library, free admission passes to the Akron Art Museum or win tickets to the Nutcracker performance at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall.

Local schools are invited to participate in a STEM-themed contest to build a recycled snowman that will be showcased at the event. Winners of the Build a Snowman contest will be announced at the event and will receive a free class trip to the museum.

The Akron Children’s Museum will also be holding a pajama drive at the event. All new items collected for children from birth to 18 years old will be given to children in Summit County Children’s Services’ foster and kinship programs.

“ACM’s goal is to be the community’s go-to place for fun, learning, exploration and memory-making,” Children’s Museum Executive Director Traci Buckner said in a prepared statement. “Thanks to our devoted event co-chair, Susan Pho-Burnoski, children will be busy playing and exploring while parents and community members have fun supporting the museum’s programming and growth."

The museum welcomes volunteers for the day, and those interested can call the museum at 330-396-6103 or email event co-chair Susan Lindeman at susan@akronkids.org.
