ADM wrestlers grab gold, boys hoops win big pair
The Tigers look to keep one streak going next week and hope to reverse another as well after this last series of games. (Note: Events covered Jan 9-15.)
Girls Basketball (6-8)
A pair of losses has now snowballed into four straight for the Tigers, as ADM dropped a pair of conference home games this week. It’s the first time the team has had a streak longer than two games this season.
Starting with Jan. 10, ADM fell 49-39 to Caroll (5-6). Though, the game was in a dead heat for most of the 32 minutes. It was in the first quarter that the guests made their mark, going up 12-4.
Nicole Storck was able to break out for 13 points and eight rebounds to start erasing that deficit. But with just five assists being passed all night by the entire ADM roster while collectively shooting 30 percent, narrowing the threats from around the court.
Going up against Ballard (10-2) — an odds-on favorite for the conference crown — the Tigers suffered a similar fate in a 44-26 loss. Storck once again led the team in scoring and rebounds, pulling in nine points and nine rebounds. But her efforts were limited in comparison as Ballard’s stable of scorers made more than double ADM’s entire count for the night.
A make-right game against Bondurant-Farrar (4-6) on Jan. 20 would be a welcomed turn to the season. The Bluejays previously won 45-38 in the first matchup this season with the Tigers and overall, have won five straight against ADM. The Tigers will look for their home crowd to bring the atmosphere once again on Jan. 24 against North Polk (11-2), a team ADM hasn’t beaten since the conference realignment in 2020.
Boys Basketball (7-5)
That’s three out of the last four for the Tigers after taking down two winning programs this week.
First, on Jan. 10, the Tigers outpowered Carroll (6-4) for a 43-37 win despite a comeback bid from their doppelganger visitors. And three nights later, Ballard (6-5) was handed one of its worst losses of the season, falling 73-53* for the season sweep.
In a game that was determined by defense, the most disciplined team between ADM and Carroll came out the victor, as ADM committed both fewer fouls and turnovers. ADM turned the ball over 12 times compared to forcing 16, and their visitors were responsible for 23 fouls while ADM limited refs to blowing just 11 whistles on the floor.
But the Tigers will have a true test soon enough as Bondurant-Farrar (10-0) comes to town on Jan. 20 unscathed. The Bluejays won both meetings last season and have only increased their stock this season. That’s followed by a visit from another conference powerhouse, North Polk (8-2), making this a perfect time for ADM to make a statement to the conference with more big performances.

Boys Wrestling
The Tigers brought in nine other teams Saturday for the annual Tiger Invitational and finished in third place, topping competitive teams like Ames and Waukee Northwest.
Bringing in the most points for the day, Jacob Alexander (120 pounds) and Carter Madison (106) both finished at the top of the podium while Kaedan Campbell (132) grabbed second place.
Madison’s afternoon was one of his strongest performances of the season. Not only did he finish 3-0 to bring his overall record to 14-14, but he won his first two rounds within a minute. Aledander’s day was a bit abbreviated with just two rounds, but he finished on a high note, pinning his championship opponent in 33 seconds.
Evan Vanorny (138) and Karver Sutton (182) each brought home third place prizes after battling back with two wins after second losses.
