25 District 10 basketball teams will play in first round of PIAA playoffs. Here's the schedule
After an exciting finish to the District 10 playoffs, area high school basketball teams now will set their sights on long PIAA postseason runs.
Eight D-10 champions were crowned over the weekend, with consolation games and subregionals also taking place. In all, 12 boys teams and 13 girls teams from District 10 will now play in the first round of the state playoffs beginning Friday.
D-10 finals weekend: Championship thrills part of District 10 basketball's packed playoff weekend
There are doubleheaders Friday and Saturday at Joann Mullen Gymnasium inside the Hagerty Family Events Center. On Friday, D-10 Class 3A girls champion Mercyhurst Prep faces Waynesburg Central at 6 p.m. The Cathedral Prep boys will follow with a 7:30 p.m. tip against South Fayette in a Class 5A game. On Saturday, D-10 2A boys champion Erie First Christian plays Clairton at 3 p.m. That game is followed by a Class 5A girls matchup with Cathedral Prep taking on Trinity Area at 4:30 p.m.
In other games at Erie County schools, District 10 Class 4A girls champion Fairview will host Beaver Area on Saturday at 3 p.m. At that same day and time, girls 4A runner-up Harbor Creek will host Quaker Valley.
