2023 NFL draft: Scouting report for Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet

The Seattle Seahawks selected running back Zach Charbonnet out of UCLA with the No. 52 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. A nice complement to Kenneth Walker, the PAC-12 product fills a hole in Seattle.

Here’s a look at his pre-draft scouting report from NFL.com.

“Upright runner with outstanding body composition and consecutive seasons of impressive production for the Bruins,” writes Lance Zierlein. “Charbonnet is a bit of a long-strider with slightly below average foot quickness. He is much more effective when allowed to open up and build downhill momentum. He can slip tackles in the open field but lacks the first-level wiggle to get too cute. He’s inconsistent in processing defensive fronts quickly but can be a hammer into and through contact when he has a clear point of entry.”

Here’s former Seahawks LB K.J. Wright announcing the pick.

“Charbonnet is a talented third-down option as both a blocker and pass-catcher,” Zierlein continues. “He could be viewed as a Day 2 value with three-down potential.”

Barring any trades, Seattle is set to select next at No. 83 overall in the third round.
