2023 LSU Tigers Snapshot Profile: No. 44 Slade Roy

Going into the 2023 football season, LSU Wire will be looking at each player listed on the Tigers’ roster.

Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Brian Kelly this season.

We continue to show some love to LSU’s group of specialists, and we’re taking a look at one of the best players at his position in the country, Slade Roy. After joining the Tigers last season as a transfer, he became the starting long snapper and will likely retain that job as he enters his junior year in 2022.

Started all 14 games at long snapper in 2022.

Depth Chart Overview

Roy, a Charlotte native who attended South Mecklenburg High School, initially chose to stay in-state and sign with the East Carolina Pirates in 2021. During his true freshman season, he was the team’s primary long-snapper and played in all 12 games.

He took over the starting job when he arrived at LSU and was one of the best long snappers in the country. He should be the starter once again, and Roy was named to the preseason watch list for the Patrick Mannely Award for the nation’s top long snapper.
